In December of 2003 my friend Colin and I were deep into playing Diablo II multiplayer on a couple of Thinkpad laptop’s with a crossover network cable. This culminated in us playing Diablo II in the movie theatre while waiting for Return of the King to start.

This week brought Diablo IV to Steam with proper Steam Deck support and in that portable form factor it triggers deep nostalgia for me.

A Steam Deck in my hand running Diablo IV with the inventory open. Also visible is Luna’s face as she naps in my lap while I play

@thatguygriff the mere fact that we had to be concerned about whether an Ethernet cable was crossover or not still makes me mad. It was a glorious day when NICs started taking care of that shit for us.

Explaining crossover cables to new co op students is right up there with explaining that “no my laptops didn’t always have WiFi”
